The races:
• The 100-mile race starts at 17:00 on Friday 16 April 2027, setting off from Castiglione d’Orcia.
Runners must reach the finish line within 34 hours to be eligible for a finisher’s prize.
• The 103 km race starts at 05:00 on Saturday 17 April 2027, setting off from Castiglione d’Orcia.
Runners must reach the finish line within 22 hours to be eligible for a finisher’s prize.
• The 53 km race starts at 06:00 on Saturday 17 April 2027, setting off from Castiglione d’Orcia.
Runners must reach the finish line within 10 hours to be eligible for a finisher’s prize.
-
The 15 km race starts at 09.15 on Saturday 17 April 2027. Runners must reach the finish line within 2 hours to be eligible for a finisher’s prize. All participants must strictly adhere to the rules and the pre-race briefing to remain eligible for the prize. The race route will mostly pass through typical Tuscan countryside, comprising mainly dirt tracks, footpaths and tarmac (less than 20 per cent), passing through some of Tuscany’s most beautiful villages.
Entry requirements
Athletes who have reached the age of 18 by the date of the event and who are in possession of the required medical documentation for participation may enter. Athletes who are serving a ban for doping or who have been sanctioned for breaching anti-doping regulations issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency, national federations or recognised sporting bodies will not be accepted. No qualifying races are required for entry; however, previous experience in trail running or ultra-trail races appropriate to the chosen distance is strongly recommended.
The athlete declares that they are aware of the length, technical difficulties and environmental characteristics of the race, which require a high level of physical fitness, adequate experience, the ability to act independently and the ability to cope with the weather and environmental conditions typical of trail running.
The hills of the Val d’Orcia, whilst characterised by seemingly gentle landscapes, can present physically and mentally demanding conditions.
Medical certificate
Italian athletes must hold a valid competitive medical certificate for athletics that is valid on the date of the event.
Foreign athletes must submit the medical documentation required by Italian regulations or complete and upload the medical form provided by the Organisers, which can be downloaded from the event’s official website. The documentation must be validated by the Organisers prior to taking part in the race. In the absence of compliant documentation, the registration will be cancelled without entitlement to a refund of the entry fee paid.

Liability
Participation in the Tuscany Crossing is entirely at the competitor’s own risk; the competitor declares that they are aware of the nature and difficulties of the event and that they are physically fit enough to tackle it.
The athlete is responsible for their own physical condition and for assessing their own fitness to take part in the event.
Should the intervention of the emergency medical services be required, including the possible use of advanced rescue vehicles or helicopter rescue, any costs not covered by the National Health Service or other insurance cover shall be borne by the participant in accordance with current legislation.
Subject to the provisions of mandatory legislation, the Organisers accept no liability for damage, theft, loss or incidents that may occur before, during or after the event to persons, animals or property.
By registering, the competitor declares that they are participating voluntarily in the event and that they accept the risks associated with trail running and ultratrail running in a natural environment.
Compulsory equipment
All competitors must carry the compulsory equipment specified for their distance for the entire duration of the race.
The Organisers may carry out checks on the compulsory equipment at the start, along the route, at refreshment points, at the Base Vita and at the finish.
Checks may be carried out on a random basis on any competitor.
Specific checks may be carried out on athletes in the top positions before the final confirmation of the rankings.
Failure to carry even a single item of the compulsory equipment may result in a penalty, disqualification or other sanction determined by the Race Directorate.
In the event of deteriorating weather conditions or for specific safety reasons, the Organisers may require additional compulsory equipment, even in the hours leading up to the start. Any additions will be communicated via the website, email, pre-race briefing or other official channels.

Safety and personal self-reliance are an integral part of the spirit of the Tuscany Crossing. Each competitor is responsible for the proper management of their own equipment throughout the event.
Familiarity
Knowledge of the route offers physical and mental advantages during the race; take care to study the difficult sections thoroughly. Particular attention should be paid to those sections you expect to run in the dark, when your mental and physical energy may be low.

Night-time running
In races that include sections run at night, the use of a head torch is compulsory, as stipulated in the list of compulsory equipment.
The Organisers also recommend carrying a second light source and/or spare batteries sufficient for the expected duration of the race.
Competitors must check that their lighting equipment is working correctly before the start.
In the event of a lighting failure during the race, the competitor must take all reasonable safety precautions, seeking assistance from other participants or the organisers’ staff if necessary.
Proceeding along the route without adequate lighting is strongly discouraged for safety reasons.

Weather
Weather conditions along the route may vary significantly during the event and differ between the various sections of the course.
Temperatures may range from values close to 0°C at night to over 30°C during the hottest part of the day.
All competitors must be adequately prepared to cope with variable weather conditions, including rain, wind, cold, intense heat and sudden changes in the weather.
For safety reasons, the Organisers reserve the right to modify the route, start times, time gates and compulsory equipment, or to suspend or cancel the event should weather conditions make this necessary.
The Organisers may also require additional compulsory equipment depending on the forecast weather conditions. Any such additions will be communicated to competitors via the website, email, pre-race briefings or other official channels before the start of the event.
Crossing rivers and streams
The route may include crossings of rivers, streams, ditches or other watercourses.
Such crossings must be tackled with the utmost caution and must not be undertaken whilst running.
Competitors are required to follow the instructions of the Organising Committee’s staff and to use any safety equipment provided on site.
In the event of conditions deemed dangerous, the Organising Committee may alter the crossing point, arrange assistance, divert the route or neutralise the affected section.
The safety of participants takes precedence over the continuity of the original route in all circumstances. Signposting and Navigation
The route will be signposted using arrows, marker tape, directional signs, reflective markers and other devices, which will be explained during the pre-race briefing.
On sections covered at night, special reflective elements will be used to help participants identify the route.
The Organisers will make every reasonable effort to ensure the route is adequately signposted; however, each competitor is required to pay constant attention to the signage and to check their position along the route.
The official GPS track will be made available on the event website. It is the competitor’s responsibility to download the most up-to-date version before the start.
Changes to the route may be made right up until the days immediately preceding the race for reasons of safety, authorisations, trail maintenance or other organisational requirements. It is therefore recommended that you download the final track during the week leading up to the event.
The official signposting provided by the Organisers takes precedence over the GPS track in all cases.
The Organisers cannot guarantee that the signposting will remain intact for the entire duration of the event; vandalism, weather conditions or third-party interference may alter or remove it.
For this reason, competitors are advised to consult the road book, maps and the official GPS track in advance.
Change bags
The Organisers will provide a transport service for change bags at the locations indicated in the official event documentation.
Bags must be handed in at the locations and times communicated by the Organisers prior to the start, with the competitor’s race number clearly displayed.
Only one bag per athlete is permitted at each designated location.
Bags must be securely closed and of a size suitable for transport by the Organisers. Rigid containers, cardboard boxes, glass bottles or any materials that may break, deteriorate or damage other bags during transport are not permitted.
It is forbidden to include perishable food, hazardous substances or valuables. The Organisers accept no liability for any theft, loss, delays in return or damage to the contents.
The bags will be returned to the finish area or to the location indicated by the Organisers as soon as possible after the relevant collection points have closed.
It is the competitor’s responsibility to collect their bag within the timescales communicated by the Organisers. Bags not collected by the specified deadline may be disposed of without any obligation to retain them.
The Organisers reserve the right to check the contents of the bags for security reasons.
Withdrawal from the race
Any competitor wishing to withdraw from the race must notify the Organisers’ staff at the nearest refreshment point, checkpoint or control point as soon as possible.
In the case of a race using a GPS tracking system, competitors who withdraw must also return the device in accordance with the instructions provided by the Organisers.
If withdrawal occurs at a location inaccessible to emergency or support vehicles, the competitor must make their own way to the nearest support point, except in cases of a medical emergency.
The Organisers will make every reasonable effort to transport withdrawn competitors to the finish area or to a pre-arranged assembly point. However, depending on their position on the route, weather conditions and safety priorities, waiting times may be prolonged.
Medical emergencies and the safety of competitors still in the race will always take priority over the transport of withdrawn competitors.
Checkpoints and refreshment stations will cease operations upon the passage of the broom wagon or at the closing time set by the time gates.
Any competitor who abandons the race without informing the Organisers may be considered missing, resulting in the activation of the search and rescue procedures set out in the event’s safety protocols.
Race Ethics
The Tuscany Crossing takes place on footpaths, dirt tracks and sections open to normal vehicular traffic.
All competitors are required to comply with the Highway Code, safety regulations and the instructions of the organisers’ staff, and to behave in a correct and respectful manner towards residents, walkers, tourists, farmers, motorists and other participants.
Volunteers and staff present along the route are not authorised to stop or direct traffic. Each competitor is therefore responsible for their own safety at crossings and on sections open to traffic.
Any form of unsportsmanlike, offensive or disrespectful behaviour towards other competitors, volunteers, medical staff, organising committee staff or people present on the route may result in penalties or disqualification.
Every competitor is obliged to assist any person in difficulty or in danger encountered along the route and to alert the Organising Committee staff or the emergency services as soon as possible.
Failure to provide assistance or to alert the Organising Committee in the event of an obvious danger may result in disqualification from the event.
Should a competitor provide assistance to a person in difficulty, the Race Directors may consider offering compensation for the time spent on the rescue.
Personal safety always takes precedence over sporting results.
Volunteers
The Tuscany Crossing is made possible by the invaluable contribution of hundreds of volunteers who work before, during and after the event.
Volunteers are a fundamental part of the event and dedicate their time, passion and energy to ensuring the safety and well-being of participants.
The Organisers invite all competitors to cooperate with the staff present along the route and to treat them with respect and gratitude.
Without their contribution, events such as the Tuscany Crossing could not take place.
Respect for people, the environment and the race rules is an integral part of the spirit of the event.
Insurance
The Organisers take out a Third-Party Liability (TPL) insurance policy valid for the entire duration of the event, in accordance with current legislation.
This insurance cover relates exclusively to the Organisers’ liability and does not in any way replace participants’ personal insurance cover.
The Organisers recommend that all competitors ensure they are adequately covered by their own personal insurance for accidents, medical assistance, search and rescue, travel, cancellation and repatriation by special means, including the possible use of helicopter rescue where provided for by current legislation.
Participation in the event is at the competitor’s own risk, and competitors are required to assess for themselves the adequacy of their own insurance cover in relation to the chosen distance and the nature of the race.
Image rights
By registering for the Tuscany Crossing, the participant expressly authorises the Organisers and any parties authorised by them to use photographs, video footage, images and audio recordings taken during the event in which they may appear.
Such materials may be used free of charge for institutional, informational, promotional, editorial and advertising purposes relating to the Tuscany Crossing, on any printed, digital, audiovisual, web or social media platform, without territorial restrictions and for the maximum period permitted by current legislation.
The use of images shall be carried out with due regard for personal dignity and in accordance with the provisions of the legislation on the protection of personal data.
Acceptance of the Rules
By registering and paying the entry fee, the competitor declares that they have read, understood and accepted these rules in full and without reservation.
The competitor further declares that they are aware of the nature of the event, the difficulties of the route, the risks associated with trail running and ultratrail running in a natural environment, and that they are participating at their own risk.
In matters not expressly provided for in these regulations, the decisions of the Race Director and the Organisers shall be final and binding.
Rules of the Tuscany Crossing
The purpose of these regulations is to ensure the proper conduct of the competition, the safety of participants, respect for the environment and fair racing conditions for all competitors.
Participation in the Tuscany Crossing implies full acceptance of these regulations, the Organisers’ official communications, the Race Director’s instructions and the guidance provided during the pre-race briefing.
Breach of the rules contained in these regulations may result in penalties, disqualification, exclusion from the rankings, exclusion from the prize-giving ceremony or a ban on participation in future editions of the event.

Race number
The official race number must be worn visibly on the front of the body for the entire duration of the race and must be shown upon request by the organisers’ staff.
Route
Competitors must follow only the official marked route.
Anyone who accidentally strays from the route must return to the exact point where they left it before continuing the race.
Deliberately leaving the official route with the aim of shortening the course will result in disqualification.
External assistance
External assistance is permitted only in refreshment areas and in any areas designated by the Organisers.
Accompanying persons must remain within a maximum radius of 150 metres from the authorised areas.
Any form of external assistance outside the authorised areas is prohibited, except in cases of medical emergency.
The use of trekking poles is permitted.
Checkpoints
Each competitor must pass through all the checkpoints set up by the Organisers.
Failure to pass through a checkpoint will result in disqualification.
Safety and medical checks
The event’s official medical and healthcare staff may, at their sole discretion, withdraw from the race any competitor deemed unfit to continue.
Rescue workers and medical staff are authorised to evacuate competitors deemed to be in danger using the means they deem most appropriate.
Competitors are required to cooperate with medical staff and provide accurate information regarding their state of health and any ongoing treatment.
Refusal to cooperate with medical staff may result in disqualification.
Sportsmanship
Competitors must conduct themselves in a proper and respectful manner, in accordance with the principles of fair play.
Unsporting, offensive or dangerous behaviour towards other competitors, volunteers, medical staff, organisers’ personnel and members of the public on the course is prohibited.
Smoking is prohibited within refreshment areas and at checkpoints.
Rankings
Only competitors who complete the course within the maximum time limits and in accordance with these regulations will be considered official finishers.

Anti-doping
The Tuscany Crossing adheres to the anti-doping principles and regulations issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), World Athletics and the relevant sports federations.
Athletes currently subject to anti-doping suspensions will not be permitted to take part.
Any refusal to undergo anti-doping tests as required by the relevant authorities will result in disqualification from the event.
Changes for safety reasons
In the event of adverse weather conditions, weather warnings, safety issues, instructions from the relevant authorities or other exceptional circumstances, the Organisers may alter the route, time gates, compulsory equipment or start times, or may suspend or cancel the event.
Decisions taken by the Organisers for safety reasons are final and cannot be contested.
Complaints
Any complaints regarding the results, the conduct of the race or alleged breaches of the regulations must be submitted in writing to the Race Director within 30 minutes of the publication of the provisional results.
The complaint must include the complainant’s name, race number, a detailed description of the facts and any information that may be useful for the assessment.
The Race Directorate may take statements, verify timing data, consult GPS records and gather any other information deemed relevant to the decision.
The Race Directorate, having consulted any parties involved and the race officials, shall reach a decision which will be communicated to those concerned.
The Race Directorate’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed whilst the event is in progress.
In matters not expressly covered by these regulations, the final decision rests with the Race Director, assisted by the race officials and UISP judges.
The Race Director of the Tuscany Crossing is appointed by the Organising Committee.
