The event is organised by ASD SIENARUNNERS, an amateur sports association. The ‘TC’ takes place in southern Tuscany, in the Val d'Orcia Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

  • The 103 km walk starts at midnight on Friday 17 April 2026 from Castiglione d'Orcia. Participants must reach the finish line within 27 hours to receive a finisher's prize.

MEDICAL CERTIFICATION

103 km Walk

Sports activities of particular and high cardiovascular commitment

Certification for sports activities of particular and high cardiovascular commitment is regulated by the Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013.

This certification refers to “non-registered” individuals who participate in non-competitive or recreational events such as running events longer than 20 km, long-distance cycling, swimming, cross-country skiing or other similar events sponsored by sports federations, associated sports disciplines and sports promotion bodies.

Certificates may be issued by doctors specialising in sports medicine, general practitioners and paediatricians, limited to their patients, on a specific predefined and unmodifiable form, as per Annex D of the aforementioned Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013.

The examination protocol

The medical examination must include: measurement of

blood pressure; a baseline electrocardiogram, step test or ergometric test with monitoring of cardiac activity;

any other tests deemed useful and appropriate by the doctor;

and all relevant documentation must be kept for at least one year.

In addition, medical certificates for competitive athletics are valid.

Each participant must have a valid medical certificate, which must be uploaded to the private area of the website, sent by email or handed in directly when collecting the race number. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of registration without any right to a refund of the fee paid.

Adults may register and participants must be aware that this is a self-sufficient event, even though there are refreshment points along the route.

Participants must acknowledge the length and particular nature of the event, which differs substantially from other walks, and be

aware that their participation requires a high level of physical fitness necessary to overcome situations that require great physical and psychological autonomy, because the seemingly gentle Tuscan hills, although beautiful, are unforgiving in their challenge and unforgiving to the ill-prepared.

Ethics of the Walk: please be courteous to hikers, tourists and motorists. The route will not be closed to traffic and runners must obey the highway code. Volunteers on the route will not have the power to stop cars.

Volunteers: over 300 dedicated volunteers help with this event. They are truly the lifeblood of the event and will do everything possible to make your day a success. RACE NUMBER COLLECTION

Liability

Participants release the organisers from any liability for medical problems that may arise before, during or after the race, as they have been informed of any medical contraindications that apply to them.

In the event that it is necessary to call 118, including the possible use of a helicopter, the costs incurred for the intervention of structures external to those of the organisation, both before, during and after the event, cannot be charged to the organisation itself.

Athletes participate in the event at their own risk, relieving the organising company of any liability for damage caused to or suffered by persons, animals or property before, during and after the event.

Familiarity: knowledge of the route offers physical and mental advantages during the race, so take care to study the difficulties well. Particular attention should be paid to those sections that you expect to run in the dark, when your mental and physical energy may be low.

Night-time event: in races where a significant part of the event will take place at night, in addition to the mandatory lighting, it is advisable to have a second light and spare batteries. If the lights fail, wait for another participant with a light.

Weather: as temperatures during the event can vary from 0° to 30° degrees, participants must be prepared for both extremes. Weather conditions are unpredictable and can change quickly.

River crossing: along the route, participants will have to wade through rivers and streams, which is dangerous. On the day of the event, a guide rope will be stretched across the river, with staff available to assist.

Signage: Route signs will consist of marking tape, arrows and other signs that will be communicated before the start. In addition, reflectors will be placed on the route for the hours of darkness. Staff will do their best to provide a properly marked route, but participants must remain alert at all times.

Occasionally, people not associated with the event may alter or remove signs.

A working knowledge of the route, the road book and the GPS track will be of infinite help to participants.

Change bags (103 km): The event organisers will provide transport for change bags to the locations specified on the map. This service is provided to assist participants. Those with adequate support are asked not to overload our volunteers with unnecessary bags. Bags must be securely tied, clearly labelled with your number and deposited at the appropriate collection point established for each checkpoint before departure. Change bags must pass through a 40 cm opening. You are limited to one bag per aid station, which will be located at the 60th and 114th km. Please do not use paper bags, shoe boxes or anything made of paper-like products. These can easily get wet. It is imperative that participants do not leave perishable items in their bags. DO NOT put glass bottles in your change bags.

The bags will be returned to the TUSCANY centre as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of each runner to claim their own bags. If you are unable to retrieve your bags, please ask someone else to do so for you. Collection bags must be claimed by 10:00 on Sunday. Any bags left after the event may be disposed of. DO NOT leave any valuables in your bags. The Organising Committee is not responsible for lost or damaged collection bags and their contents.

Pick-up: If you have to abandon the event at a point where rescue is not available, we will make every reasonable effort to take you to the finish line or the nearest main checkpoint still in operation, especially if you need medical attention. In non-emergency situations, you may have to wait several hours before being evacuated. Participants who have to leave the event will be taken to the finish line. Our primary responsibility is to organise an event, not to provide a shuttle service for non-finishers; therefore, please be patient. Rescue stations will close when the sweep service arrives.

Insurance; Civil liability: The organisation takes out civil liability insurance for the entire duration of the event. The organisation recommends that all participants take out their own personal insurance covering participation in events such as Tuscany Crossing, including accident, travel and evacuation costs.

Image rights; By registering with TC, participants expressly authorise the organisation, together with its partners, to acquire the right, free of charge, to use still or moving images in which they may appear, taken during their participation in the event, on all visual media as well as on promotional and/or advertising materials, produced and distributed worldwide and for the maximum time permitted by law, regulations and treaties in force, including any extension that may be made to the period provided for.

for the maximum period provided for by the laws, regulations and treaties in force, including any extension that may be made to the period provided for.

Acceptance; By registering and paying the fee, the participant accepts these rules without reservation.

TC rules

The purpose of these rules is to ensure the smooth running of the event and the fairness of individual performances, providing equal conditions for all. The guiding principles of the rules are simple: walk and run fairly, safely and respect the environment.

Violations of any TC rule or directive may result in disqualification for one or more years, or other penalties such as time penalties, fines and/or disqualification from prizes.

The official race number must be worn visibly on the front of the body and must be easily visible at all times.

Participants must follow the marked trail at all times.

Each participant must complete the entire course without outside assistance. No physical or mechanical assistance is allowed, but the use of trekking poles is permitted.

No assistance may be provided outside the designated areas (refreshment area) except in the case of medical assistance.

Participants must comply with the event regulations issued by the Event Director in the event emails and at the event briefing on Friday afternoon, otherwise they will be excluded from the event. Each runner must be registered or checked at all checkpoints.

All time limits will be strictly enforced both at the entrance and exit of the refreshment points, which will operate according to a specific schedule (to be communicated at a later date). Participants must be OUTSIDE the checkpoint BEFORE the time limit. Participants who return to the checkpoint after the time limit will be eliminated from the event.

At the discretion of medical staff, further monitoring of individual participants may be necessary.

Refusal by the participant to cooperate fully may result in immediate exclusion. Each runner must fully disclose to the medical staff at the event check-in any changes in their existing medical conditions and all prescribed medications.

Medical/health personnel may, at their sole discretion, suspend the participant from the event and invalidate their race number. Rescuers are authorised to evacuate participants deemed to be in danger by any means at their disposal. The use of anti-inflammatory injections by medical personnel on duty is not permitted. If it is necessary to use anti-inflammatory injections, the competitor will be stopped and transported to the medical station for health checks. Participants must refrain from any act of unsportsmanlike conduct.

Smoking is not permitted at any of the checkpoints or along the route.

Any runner who is unable to complete the event must personally inform the nearest rescue station or checkpoint of their decision to withdraw. The runner must hand in their GPS tracker and race number at that time. This serves as official notification of withdrawal from the race. Participants who leave the course without handing in their tracker and/or race number will be classified as “lost”, potentially activating the search and rescue unit. The time spent searching for such a runner may be charged to the runner.

Participants who cross the finish line after the time limit will not be listed as official finishers. The TC has a zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Any athlete who has been determined to have violated the anti-doping rules or policies enforced by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) or any other national sports federation is not eligible for registration with the TC. Any athlete who refuses to undergo anti-doping testing, if selected for testing, shall be disqualified and subject to a lifetime ban from the TC.

In the event of bad weather conditions, weather alerts and for safety reasons, the organisation reserves the right to suspend the event in progress, change the time barriers or divert the route of the event onto paved sections.

GPS tracker

Each participant in the 103 km race will be given a GPS tracker to be returned at the end of the event.

Please note

  • The GPS tracker will be handed out when you collect your race number

  • When you collect your race number and GPS tracker, please check that both match the number

  • For information on how to use the GPS, please follow the instructions and information provided in the package carefully.

  • The GPS is strictly personal and cannot be exchanged

  • The GPS must be returned to the staff in the finish area, even for athletes who have withdrawn or not started. Failure to return the GPS will result in a charge of €50 to the athlete.

  •

ENVIRONMENT

The event takes place in a nature park and fully protected ecosystems. Competitors must behave in an environmentally friendly manner, in particular avoiding littering, picking flowers or disturbing wildlife. Anyone found littering along the route will be excluded from the event and will incur any penalties provided for by municipal regulations.

Each competitor must bring a cup or water bottle to fill at the refreshment points. The event is part of the campaign promoted by Spirito Trail “I don't litter”.

REFRESHMENTS

Participants are expected to be semi-self-sufficient and must carry a litre of water.

Food and drinks from the refreshment points must be consumed on site; water bottles or Camel bags may only be filled with still water. At the start of each refreshment point, participants must have enough water and food to reach the next refreshment point.

There will be an additional refreshment point at the finish line.

There are several rivers, fountains and towns along the route where water can be obtained. Any food or drink purchased in unauthorised places is at the competitor's expense.

COMPLAINTS

Violation of any of the rules or regulations of the TC is a very serious matter. Consequently, the alleged violation of a rule by another participant is very serious. Protests must be submitted by a registered operator and must be submitted using the following procedure:

Report the alleged violation to the participant while the incident is occurring. Find a witness to the alleged violation, if possible.

Report the alleged violation with the participant's name and number to the next available rescue station judge.

Report the alleged violation in writing at the finish line to the Event Director.

All protests must be submitted by 10:30 a.m. on the Sunday

following the race. The written protest must include the name of the person who filed the complaint.

Both parties will be invited to discuss the complaint with the Committee at noon on Sunday, when a decision will be made on whether to refuse the prize to the alleged violator.

In case of oversights or omissions in the race regulations, the decision rests with the event director, as does the final judgement on all parties.

A final resolution of the issue may be taken by the UISP Territorial Committee

approximately two weeks after the race.

In the event of any oversights or omissions in the race regulations, the decision rests with the event director, as does the final judgement on all parties.

The director of the event called “TUSCANY CROSSING” will be appointed by the Organising Committee and assisted by UISP judges.
