The 103 km Camino is the most authentic form of the Tuscany Crossing.
A journey through the most beautiful Tuscany, to be experienced step by step, without rushing.
Between dawn and night, between villages and paths, between effort and wonder, you will discover that some places are not just something you pass through.
They enter inside us and stay with us long after we arrive.
WALK ROUTE 103 km
The 103km Camino passes through the last two sectors of the Tuscany Crossing: the Val d'Orcia Classic and the Val d'Orcia Mountain, offering an extraordinary journey through some of Tuscany's most iconic landscapes.
After the start, the route reaches the Rocca di Tentennano, a true symbol of the event, before crossing Rocca d'Orcia and descending towards the Orcia River. The route then leads to Bagno Vignoni, an ancient spa town famous for its large hot spring pool located in the center of town.
We climb towards Vignoni Alto and reach San Quirico d'Orcia, a historic village along the Via Francigena where Frederick Barbarossa was crowned Holy Roman Emperor. The route continues through the hills made famous by the film "Gladiator," passing the evocative Champs-Elysees and the Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta.
We then arrive in Pienza, the ideal city built by Pope Pius II and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. More hills, dirt roads, and breathtaking views lead to Monticchiello, a medieval village known for its celebrated Teatro Povero.
The descent along the Via Agogna offers a 360-degree view of the Val d'Orcia before reaching Gallina, where the most challenging section of the route begins. You climb towards Campiglia d'Orcia, dominated by its bell tower, and then descend to Bagni San Filippo, famous for the White Whale, an extraordinary limestone formation shaped by the thermal waters.
From here, the long climb to Vivo d'Orcia begins, the highest point of the route at approximately 1,050 meters above sea level. This is followed by the descent to Poggio Rosa and the final section, which, with constant ups and downs, leads back to Castiglione d'Orcia and the final climb to Rocca di Tentennano, where the well-deserved finish awaits.
The main recommendation is to carefully manage energy, nutrition, and water consumption. Val d'Orcia is a land of wind, sun, and wide open spaces: distances can be deceptive and travel times vary greatly.
The 103km Camino is a semi-autonomous route. Several hours may pass between refreshment points; it is therefore essential to set out properly equipped, consult the regulations, and always have the equipment required by the organization with you. It is also recommended to keep your phone turned on throughout the entire event and download the official GPS track beforehand.
SIGNAGE
On the 103km Camino, follow the yellow arrows and reflective tapes provided by the organizers. Although the route is fully signposted, we recommend downloading the official GPS track before setting off.

The 53 km Camino is a journey through the most authentic soul of the Val d'Orcia.
We set off in the silence of the night and, step by step, dawn reveals hills, cypress trees, medieval villages, and panoramas that have made this land famous throughout the world.
Between Bagno Vignoni, San Quirico d'Orcia, Vitaleta, Pienza, and Monticchiello, every step tells a story and every climb offers a new thrill.
Because some places you just can't pass through.
They live.
ROUTE – 53 KM “VALDORCIA CLASSIC” WALK
The 53 km Camino follows the route called "Valdorcia Classic" and represents a complete immersion in the most iconic landscapes of the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Departure is scheduled for midnight from Castiglione d'Orcia. The first hours will be spent under the starry skies of the Val d'Orcia, in a unique and evocative atmosphere that will accompany participants until the first light of dawn.
After the start, the route reaches the Rocca di Tentennano, the symbol of the event and a visual landmark for much of the route. The route then passes through the village of Rocca d'Orcia and descends towards the Orcia River, which is crossed to reach Bagno Vignoni, an ancient spa town famous for its large pool located in the heart of the town.
From here, the route climbs towards Vignoni Alto and continues to San Quirico d'Orcia, a historic village on the Via Francigena where Emperor Frederick Barbarossa was crowned. The walk continues through the hills made famous by the film "Gladiator," passing by the Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta and the evocative Champs-Elysées.
We then reach Pienza, the "ideal city" commissioned by Pope Pius II and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The route continues through the rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia to Monticchiello, a medieval village known for its celebrated Teatro Povero.
The descent along the scenic Via Agogna offers extraordinary views of the valley before crossing the Orcia River again and reaching Gallina. From here, the final kilometers lead to Castiglione d'Orcia and the final climb to the finish line.
The 53km Camino doesn't present any particular technical difficulties, but it shouldn't be underestimated. The constant ups and downs will test participants' endurance, while any crossings may vary depending on weather conditions. On hot days, the route is very exposed to the sun, and the distances between refreshment points require careful management of food and water supplies.
⚠️ IMPORTANT
Your safety and route management are primarily up to you. Although the route is fully signposted, it's strongly recommended that you download the GPS track or official route map before setting off.
If you're leaving at midnight, you're also required to bring a good headlamp and check beforehand that you meet the regulations.
SIGNAGE
During the 53 km walk the following must be followed:
• Yellow-red arrows on yellow background
• Orange ribbons with reflective band
Although the route is entirely signposted, we recommend downloading the official GPS track before setting off.
