A timeless experience in the magical Val d'Orcia, a journey through nature, culture and flavours, where beauty becomes a landscape between golden hills and enchanting villages.

What is Valdorcia

Today, Val d'Orcia retains the charm of its ancient villages, its uncontaminated landscapes and centuries-old agricultural traditions. It is a renowned destination for those seeking beauty, tranquility and an authentic experience in the Tuscan countryside.

 

Val d'Orcia has been a UNESCO Heritage Park since 2004, known for its breathtaking landscapes, rolling hills, cypresses, wheat fields and medieval villages. Here are some of the places you will pass through on your journey:

  1. Castiglione d'Orcia is  located on a hill overlooking the Orcia river valley,  The village is characterized by medieval architecture, the main attractions are the Rocca Aldobrandesca and the Rocca di Tentennano, visible from all over Valdorcia

  2. Bagno Vignoni: This unique village features a main square with a large natural thermal pool in the center, surrounded by historic buildings and dining options.

  3. San Quirico d'Orcia: A quiet medieval village with an authentic atmosphere, offers a pleasant walk through its narrow streets and ancient walls.

  4. Pienza: Also known as the "ideal city of the Renaissance", Pienza is a charming Renaissance village with a majestic central square and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

  5. Monticchiello is a small medieval village located in the Val d'Orcia, in Tuscany. It is known for its picturesque beauty, famous for its theater company called Teatro Povero di Monticchiello. The theater company was founded in 1967 and is made up of locals who put on shows based on their lives and experiences.

  6. Hen it is an ancient agricultural village, built as a rest stop for pilgrims as it was positioned at the point where via Cassia coincides with the old via Francigena.

  7. Campiglia d'Orciais  known for its medieval architecture and its well-preserved historic center. Walking through the narrow streets of Campiglia d'Orcia, visitors can admire ancient stone houses, charming squares and picturesque views at every corner and a panoramic view of the surrounding landscapes.

  8. Bagni San Filippo: These natural spas are an ideal destination to relax and enjoy the warm waters amidst nature.

  9. I live in Orcia it is a small pearl immersed in the chestnut woods on the slopes of Mount Amiata and represents the highest village of the entire route, reaching an altitude of 1050 m above sea level. it takes its name from the Vivo stream whose sources are an important water source for the aqueducts of the Val di Chiana and Siena.

 

In addition to these attractions, the landscape of the Val d'Orcia itself is a sight to behold, with picturesque hills, scenic roads and vineyards as far as the eye can see. The region is also renowned for its delicious cuisine, so don't miss the opportunity to sample local dishes and fine wines during yourI walk.

NB: gThe closing times of the refreshment points are also understood as hourly gates, after this time participants will have to hand in their bib and tracker and will be excluded from the event.
