What is Valdorcia?
Today, the Val d'Orcia retains the charm of its ancient villages, unspoiled landscapes and centuries-old agricultural traditions. It is a renowned destination for those seeking beauty, tranquility and an authentic experience in the Tuscan countryside.


The Val d'Orcia is a picturesque region located in Tuscany, Italy, known for its breathtaking landscapes, rolling hills, cypress trees, wheat fields and medieval villages. Here are some of the places you will pass through on your journey:

Castiglione d'Orcia is situated on a hill overlooking the valley of the Orcia River, The village features medieval architecture, the main attractions being the Rocca Aldobrandesca and the Rocca di Tentennano, which can be seen from all over Valdorcia.

​

Torrenieri located along the Via Francigena, it is a stop for many pilgrims and hikers traveling the route from Canterbury to Rome.

​

Montalcino renowned for its wine, Brunello di Montalcino, offers spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside and a well-preserved medieval fortress.

 

Abbey of Sant'Antimo: An ancient Benedictine monastery set in the hills, famous for its Romanesque architecture and serene spiritual atmosphere.

Bagno Vignoni: This unique village features a main square with a large natural thermal pool in the center, surrounded by historic buildings and eateries.

 

San Quirico d'Orcia: A quiet medieval village with an authentic atmosphere, it offers a pleasant walk through its narrow streets and ancient walls.

 

Pienza: Also known as the "ideal city of the Renaissance," Pienza is a charming Renaissance village with a majestic central square and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

 

Monticchiello is a small medieval village located in the Val d'Orcia, Tuscany. It is known for its picturesque beauty, famous for its theater company called Teatro Povero di Monticchiello. The theater company was founded in 1967 and is composed of locals who put on plays based on their lives and experiences.

 

Gallina is an ancient agricultural village, which arose as a rest station for pilgrims since it was positioned at the point where the Via Cassia coincides with the old Via Francigena.

 

Campiglia d'Orcia is known for its medieval architecture and well-preserved historic center. Strolling through the narrow streets of Campiglia d'Orcia, visitors can admire ancient stone houses, charming squares and picturesque views at every turn, and a panoramic view of the surrounding landscapes.

 

Bagni San Filippo: These natural hot springs are an ideal destination for relaxing and enjoying the warm waters in the midst of nature.

Vivo d'Orcia is a small gem nestled among chestnut forests on the slopes of Mount Amiata represents the highest village on the entire route, reaching an elevation of 1050 m above sea level and takes its name from the Vivo stream whose springs are an important water source for the aqueducts of the Val di Chiana and Siena.

 

In addition to these attractions, the Val d'Orcia landscape itself is a sight to behold, with picturesque hills, scenic roads and vineyards as far as the eye can see. The region is also renowned for its delicious cuisine, so be sure to sample local dishes and fine wines along the way.

In the case of intermediate finishes at km 60 or km 110 you will receive a diploma, while those who complete the entire route will receive a diploma and a finisher award

alternatively you can register for the 53 km with a midnight start.
